Carrickcruppen GAA Club Notes

CONGRATULATIONS CAROLINE O’HANLON AND ULSTER LADIES

Further honours were bestowed on multi-talented Caroline O’Hanlon who was part of the Ulster team who won the inter-provincial series. Caroline was also voted ‘Player of the Tournament’ and the photograph shows her receiving her award from Pat Quill. Well Done Caroline! No doubt there will be plenty more awards for you before the end of the season.

CARRICKCRUPPEN 2-6 WHITECROSS 0-13

‘Cruppen travelled the short distance to Whitecross for the ACL Division 1 fixture with a team severely depleted by injuries, work and County commitments. Paul Keenan opened the scoring with a point for ‘Cruppen, Whitecross equalised before a few minutes later and then there was a goal for Carrickcruppen which was adjudged by the referee not to have crossed the line. Another Paul Keenan and one from Declan Carville put ‘Cruppen in front but 4 unanswered points from the hom eside had them go into the half-time interval leading by 3 points 0-5 to 0-3.

Whitecross extended their lead at the start of the second half to 8 points and ‘Cruppen fought hard in the second half. Further points from Paul Keenan (3) and a goal from Karl McVerry reduced the deficit to 4 points. A Declan Carville goal near the end of the match brought ‘Cruppen back to within one point but that proved be the difference on the scoreboard at the final whistle.

Next up for Carrickcruppen is a home game against Sarsfields next Friday night at 7:30pm.

CARRICKCRUPPEN RESERVES DRAW WITH WHITECROSS

The reserve team travelled to Whitecross on Wednesday night and came away with a draw in a game which they should have wrapped up by halftime. 4 points and a goal from Peter Loughran in the first 10 minutes should have set ‘Cruppen up for a deserved victory but sloppy play allowed Whitecross to edge back into the game to trail by 3 points at the break. Whitecross emerged after the interval in determined mood and soon had wiped out the deficit.

It was nip and tuck until the last 5 minutes with neither team able to go more than 2 points ahead. In the dying seconds, Whitecross were leading by 2 points, a dangerous lead, when Peter Loughran again netted following good work from Brendan Doran. Whitecross were awarded a free with the last kick of the game to level matters. Whilst this was a point dropped, we remain unbeaten in the league. Next Wednesday night we travel to Granemore-all players to meet at 6.00pm. The draw has also been made for the semi-final of the reserve championship and Carrickcruppen are to play Clan na Gael with a date and venue to be confirmed.

It is £1 per line and if you’re an expert in predicting the correct score then you will grab yourself £50.

ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP DEBATE

For those who attended the pre-championship debate in the social club last Thursday night went home with sore sides from the laughter with plenty of banter coming from the panel of Billy-Joe Padden, Danny Hughes, Paul McGrane and Benny Tierney. All of whom gave an honest opinion on most questions asked and some held back on the one or two contentious questions apart from ‘no holds barred’ Tierney who said what he thought and this was fully appreciated by the audience.

If their predictions are anything to go by then it’s time to lump the money on Cork to win the All-Ireland come September. On behalf of Carrickcruppen and those attending the debate I would like to express our sincerest thanks to Billy-Joe Padden, Danny Hughes, Paul McGrane and Benny Tierney along with the MC for the night Damian McCullough. It was a great nights craic and the proceeds from the night went to club funds.

U10s TRAVEL TO MULLAGHBAWN
