Premier Division

It’s advantage Windmill at the top!

Rockview United push forward in their match with Damolly United at Olympic Park on Saturday.

It’s Windmill Star’s title to lose now. Their win over Woodside, coupled with Bessbrook’s defeat to Killeavy, means if the Star’s win their remaining games, then they will win the league regardless of how other results go.

Gareth White was on red hot form as he hit all four of Windmill’s goals in a one sided encounter against Woodside. Second placed Newry Celtic kept the pressure on Windmill as they beat basement boys Crieve Rovers 2-0.

Bessbrook United’s title hopes took a major setback after Killeavy United beat them 3-1 at Meigh. This result sees Tommy Mooney’s side fall 20 points behind leaders Windmill but they still have six games in hand.

Second half Rockview display blows away Damolly

Rockview United's Barry McParland comes off his line to block this effort from Damolly's Gavin Martin.

Damolly were on the wrong end of a 5-1 drubbing against Rockview United at Olympic park on Saturday. This result sees them remain nine points adrift of safety with only four games remaining. They could yet be handed a lifeline though. The inclusion of three new teams to the First division next season could well mean the committee might decide not to relegate any sides.

Jamie Wharton gave Damolly a half time lead with a sweetly struck free kick but once Darren Quinn equalised for Rockview early in the second half, Damolly fell apart. Quinn and leading marksman Stephen Daly went on to net a brace each and substitute Ryan Hollywood completed the scoring with a stunning bicycle kick near the end.

Late Killowen goals sink Ballybot

Killowen Celtic came from behind with two late goals to sink  Ballybot United at the Barley field. The ‘Bot had taken the lead fifteen minutes into the second half but the game looked to be heading for a draw when PJ Parr leveled matters with eight minutes remaining. Killowen skipper Aidan Coisins had other ideas though and in the final minute of the game he beat his man and stroked home the winner to snatch all three points for the Celts.

A gr-eight day for the ‘Strollers

North End Strollers secured promotion in emphatic fashion after they trounced third placed Midway United 8-2 at Derrybeg. Conor Carlon netted four times, top scorer Brian Dillon grabbed a brace while Conor Quinn and Brendan O’Hare also got their names on the score sheet. This completes a remarkable turnaround for the Strollers as this time last season they were sitting second from bottom in the league table.

Bohs and Clanrye finishing season in style!

Bohemians are finishing the season with a flourish as goals from Felix Flynn (2), Justy Philpott and Dominic McCartan helped them to a 4-1 win over Newry Juventus at Frank Curran. This is Bohs fourth straight league win and they will hope to bring this form into the Gilmore Cup when they take on another of the Division’s in form sides – Park View.

Clanrye Athletic are another team finishing the season in dynamic fashion. They say lightning doesn’t strike twice as last week they hadn’t picked up a league win in over four months, but for the second successive Saturday in a row they came from behind to claim victory. Diarmuid Fee gave Ashgrove the lead from a free kick but two late goals gave Clanrye the points.
