Cloughreagh Community Centre Secures £183,000 Funding For Digi Hub Creation | Newry News
Slieve Gullion area Sinn Féin Councillor Declan Murphy has said that the inclusion of Cloughreagh Community Centre in the Mini-Digi Hub cross-border project is to be welcomed.
Newry Mourne and Down Council have secured £183,000 to help transform the Community Centre into a mini-hub of digital innovation and collaboration.
The local Councillor explains, “The Mini-Digi Hubs project aims to transform the East Border Region by upgrading 5 underutilised public buildings into hubs of digital innovation and collaboration.
“Currently, Cloughreagh Community Centre is underutilised during the day with most users booking sessions in the evenings.
“To help plug the gap we bid as part of a larger East Border Region proposal, for the transformation of this building into a digi-hub.
“That bid was successful with funding of £183,000 awarded.
“Work will soon commence to transform the Community Centre into a mini-hub of digital innovation and collaboration.
“The Digi hub will be complementary to the activities already running there.”
The Sinn Féin elected representative continues, “The Digi-hub’s key objectives include the improvement of the health and wellbeing of everyone in the district as well as empowering communities to play an active part in civic life.
“This exciting initiative will complement the ongoing positive work being carried out by the local community, and voluntary and sporting groups in our area.
“I thank them for their great efforts and the commitment they have to the Cloughreagh and wider communities.”
Declan adds, “I wish also to commend Council officers for their work in securing the grant for this project and my colleagues on Council whose support in securing this funding was essential.
