Enterprise Dublin to Belfast Train Service Plans welcomed by Newry MLA | Newry News
Newry and Armagh MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed Enterprise Train Service plans to provide an hourly Dublin to Belfast service on Mondays to Saturdays.
The Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin elected representative explains, “I welcome the plans from Translink to expand and improve the rail services for the people of Newry.
“Translink are planning to double service provision during peak times between Belfast and Dublin with an hourly service aiming to be introduced in August.
“The new timetable has the last service at 20:50 from Dublin and 21:02 from Belfast.
“However, there is an argument to running additional later trains, particularly at the weekends, to accommodate people travelling for shows or socialising.
“I will continue to lobby on this issue”.
The MLA continues, “Another key issue raised by many constituents is the lack of access to seating on the enterprise service, forcing many to stand, even if they had booked a ticket in advance.
“At my last meeting with Translink representatives they stated that they are currently working on a dedicated seat reservation system and that they hope to have this in place by the summer.”
Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin Westminster candidate Dáire Hughes, echoing his colleague’s sentiments on the issue, comments, “All of these updates are hugely positive developments.
“We need to improve this vital cross-border service that people use and depend on every day.
“Rail is also key for helping tackle the climate emergency.
He adds, “These improvements will boost north south connectivity and deliver better service provision for workers and families in the Newry area.”
