Tory plan ‘falls well short of EU Funding’ – Conor Murphy | News in Newry
Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy has slammed the British government’s ‘Shared Prosperity Fund’ and said it represents a huge cut to EU funding for local community groups.
The former Finance Minister says the plan is significantly less than funding previously provided under the European Social Fund and European Regional Development Fund.
The Newry/Armagh MLA explains, “Today’s announcement by the Tories confirms a huge cut to vital EU funding for local community groups.
“Once again, the British government and its damaging Brexit has short-changed people and groups in the north by stripping away funding for services.
“The British government has also taken control of how the money is allocated.
“This means decisions relevant to people in the north will be made in Britain.
“This EU funding was crucial to helping our young people, creating jobs and delivering projects for everyone in our communities.
“Cutting this funding is disgraceful.”
He adds, “It should be replaced in full.”
