Newry MLA presses Minister for ‘more ambitious’ road safety target | Newry Times
Newry Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has called on Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon to consider strengthening road safety targets for the new Road Safety Strategy to 2030.
The Newry and Armagh MLA says, “At the Committee for Infrastructure I stressed my concern to Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon that in the draft road safety strategy to 2030, the target to reduce those killed in collisions has decreased from 60% to 50% when compared with the previous strategy to 2020.
“And while other targets have seen an increase in the new strategy and this is welcome, I urged the Minister to look at strengthening that specific target.
“I was pleased that a Department official stated that they will reflect on Sinn Féin’s calls for a more ambitious target within the new strategy.
“Road Safety has always been a priority for me.
“And I will continue to campaign for our roads to be safer to use for all road users on this island,” she adds.
