Newry Personal Trainer Opens New Gym, CPG Epiphany Fitness | Newry Times
Newry man Conall Gracey has spoken of his pride and excitement after launching a new gym alongside his successful Personal Training business.
Just under two years ago, the Newry man worked as a kitchen fitter, a job he had been doing for over eighteen years.
“I’ve always had an interest in working with wood and making things with my own imagination,” he explains.
However, after nearly two decades in the industry, he decided to follow his real passions in life; health and fitness.
Although it was a difficult decision, Conall says juggling a family and four kids with his kitchen fitting work were challenging, both financially and mentally.
“I decided to focus and commit full-time in learning to become a Personal Trainer,” Conall recalls.
“I knew at the end of the road that I would achieve what I worked very hard for.
“I studied for a year full-time in SRC Newry, completing the course to become fully qualified as a Personal Trainer.”
Reflecting on the year-long course, Conall says it was ‘a real in-depth course with so much invaluable support and information from the tutors’.
Health and fitness have always been a passion for Conall.
“I played football for many years and was always very athletic,” the Newry-born fitness enthusiast says.
“Growing up, it was always sports, sports, sports!
“Health and fitness are so popular these days, especially over the last eighteen months with the massive upheaval throughout the world.
“Helping with people’s mental health was a huge factor for me to fulfil my goal,” he insists.
But the timing wasn’t ideal for Conall; a global pandemic set up a chain of events that would eventually lead to national lockdowns and social distancing rules in March 2020.
“It was another challenge to focus and build up my business.
“In some ways, the lockdowns were a silver lining.
“I made sure each day I achieved a goal.
“I wanted to be a step further to establish my business on social media.”
He achieved this through online coaching and focusing on helping others not to become stuck in a rut and to mind their physical and most importantly, mental health.
“This was a huge factor for me on the mental health side of things, something I can relate to.
“Following this, I then committed to delivering a service to clients, coaching them online and also from my own home, where I had the equipment to focus on the 1-1 face to face coaching.”
In December 2020, when everyone was bracing themselves for an unusual Christmas followed by another period of lockdown restrictions, Conall says he set himself an ambitious goal.
That goal was to open his own fitness centre within six months, where he could deliver what he describes as a “more professional service to current and new clients”.
And true to his word, the Newry man achieved this in July 2021 when he officially opened the doors to CPG Epiphany Fitness.
CPG Epiphany Fitness offers 1-1 personal training as well as group training.
The new gym is located in Unit 7 Jade Business Park, Jonesborough.
“I’m delighted and proud to have achieved this,” he continues.
“It has taken a lot of ups and downs to get to this point – good and bad – but when you really put the work in and stay consistent it will eventually come to you!”
Conall says that while getting the perfect beach body is a lot of his client’s goals, for him, the passion is in changing people’s lives.
“I enjoy giving them the tools to have a longer, healthier, sustainable lifestyle while still enjoying the foods they like and having fun while doing it,” he elaborates.
“I firmly believe that anyone can make one small step.
“I will keep you on track for the chain of events to follow, even if you think you don’t have the time,” he explains.
Conall is now welcoming new clients and group training and adds, “Surprise yourself with your own potential.”
