Boylan concerned over Brexit insurance green cards
Sinn Féin MLA and Infrastructure spokesperson Cathal Boylan has expressed deep concern over uncertainty regarding cross border car insurance cover after 31 December.
The Newry and Armagh MLA stated, “We are nearly a month away from being dragged out of the EU and we still have no clarity over exactly what impact this will have for cross border travel.
“Insurance providers have stated that, in the event of a no-deal, drivers from the north will need green cards to travel into the south, with the possibility of some green cards being valid for only 15 days.
“Such an arrangement is blatantly out of touch with the realities on the ground, especially for border communities who travel seamlessly between north and south, and demonstrates the calamity of Brexit.
“Similarly, no clarity has been given for southern driving licence holders living here in the north, and whether their license will remain valid.
“As we await the end of the transition period border communities continue to wait anxiously to see what impact Brexit will have on their ability to travel unhindered across the border,” he adds.
