Mark Colgan’s legacy: Family publish Mark’s Christmas Comic for his 21st Birthday
Mark Colgan was 14 years old when he was knocked down and killed on his way to school in March 2014 and this year, to mark his 21st birthday, Mark’s family have published ‘Mark’s Christmas Comic’.
Mark from Banbridge in County Down – who attended St Colman’s College, Newry – should have had his whole life ahead of him.
Mark was an avid comic reader and designed and wrote numerous comics during the last few years of his life.
Every year on Mark’s birthday in December, Mark’s family celebrate Mark’s life by hosting an event.
This year to mark his 21st birthday, Mark’s family have published ‘Mark’s Christmas Comic’.
Mark’s family said, “Every year from Marks untimely death we always have a birthday celebration where various charities have benefited.
“We always get involved in things that we know Mark would approve.
“Big breakfast, coffee mornings, comedy plays, Slieve Donard climb and this year we have one of his very own Christmas Comic “Super Santa” published.
“Mark made this comic when he was in P6 and it has lain in a cupboard ever since.
“What a shame as we know the work and imagination he put into it.
“After reading this comic Mark’s fun-loving personality just shines through every page and it brings Mark very close to us.
The family adds, “We want people to sit back and enjoy the hilarious adventures of ‘Super Santa’.”
On 1 December, Santa is busy making lists of who is good who is bad.
He then comes across someone who is evil.
Join Super Santa as he makes his way to 89 Badman Ville.
Will Super Santa be able to defeat the evil Mr Cheeky Chap?
The comic was released on Monday 23 November and it will be available to buy at local supermarkets including Walshes Newsagents Scarva Street Banbridge; Brian Campbell’s Eurospar Scarva Street Banbridge, Costcutter Loughbrickland, Fresh Food Centres, Warrenpoint and Castlewellan; O’Malleys Shop, Poyntzpass; McCartan’s Pharmacy at Fiveways, Newry and Spar, Patrick Street Newry.
