NSPCC Northern Ireland says ‘show us yer bake’ to support children
Public encouraged to support NSPCC Northern Ireland by baking sweet and savoury treats.
NSPCC Northern Ireland has launched a new initiative urging culinary stars to support the work of the leading children’s charity by baking buns and other treats.
With fundraising events cancelled across Northern Ireland due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, supporters of the leading children’s charity are being urged to get in the mix for the virtual event, sponsored by Andrew Ingredients.
So whether you have taken up some extra culinary skills during the lockdown and if you are a novice or an expert and can whip up sweet or savoury creations, NSPCC would love for you to take part in their Show us Yer’ Bake event which is running until Friday, 28 August.
Susan Smith, Community Fundraising Manager from NSPCC Northern Ireland, said, “Show us Yer’ Bake really is such a “Norn Iron” saying and this will be such a fun event to take part in with our spin on it – baking.
“We really want to see your creations on social media so don’t forget to tag us in using the hashtag #bakeforeverychildhood.
“As we are moving away from lockdown, in order to ensure NSPCC Northern Ireland is still here for children fundraising is more important than ever.
“Childline has seen an increase of more than 25 per cent in young children in Northern Ireland getting in touch about their mental health and emotional wellbeing during the lockdown.
She added, “With your support, each person who donates will enable us to answer a call to a child or young person who desperately need our help.”
This event is sponsored by Andrew Ingredients and the company’s Finbar Haughey will be choosing three-star bakers at the end of the month.

He added, “We can’t wait to see how creative the entries are.”
To take part, members of the public are being encouraged to make a suggested donation of £5 per entry to be paid through Justgiving – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/show-us-yer-bake and then email their photographs to showusyerbake@nspcc.org.uk by Friday, 28 August.
A selection will later be shared on NSPCC Northern Ireland’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
The Show Us Yer’ Bake event comes as the team of frontline counsellors at Childline, which is run by the NSPCC, continue to adapt to the ever-changing situation and support children who are struggling with their mental health or are at risk from abuse or neglect.
