The Southern Health and Social Care Trust in partnership with the Look Good Feel Better Charity are now offering free skincare and make-up workshops for ladies coping with the visible side-effects of cancer treatments.

The two-hour workshops will take place on the first Friday of each month at Newry Leisure Centre, and are run by a team of trained volunteer beauty therapists and make-up artists.

Fiona Reddick, Head of Cancer Services for the Trust said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Look Good Feel Better & Newry, Mourne & South Down District Council, to offer this service to local ladies on active cancer treatment and hope they will benefit from having access to these workshops within their local area.

“Once formal feedback has been collated it is envisaged that this service will be further rolled out to male patients,” she added.

Amanda Yeomans, Regional Manager for Look Good Feel Better Charity, said, “We are excited to be extending the reach of our services within this area of Northern Ireland, following the successful launch at Oxford Island in November 2018.

“We are delighted to be working alongside the team at Craigavon and in partnership with the Newry Leisure Centre.

“Our group sessions are valuable for women and men to help restore self-confidence and a sense of normality, during an extremely difficult time in their lives.

She added, “I am sure the programme will be wonderfully received, and an ongoing success.”

One of the ladies who attended the workshop said, “Fantastic session-really good to boost self-confidence. Brilliant atmosphere, relaxing. I was never confident with make-up, now looking forward to trying this at home. Thank you so much, felt really special today.”
