Newry MLA ‘blown away’ by compassion and care during Women’s Aid visit

SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Justin McNulty has praised the work of Women’s Aid in Newry and has called for greater multi-agency support for the group.

The local MLA visited the group in Newry last week.

Speaking to Newry Times, McNulty explained, “Women’s Aid do really fantastic work. They provide help, assistance and shelter for women and their families in times of crises.

“The work the group do cannot be underestimated and the lives they save are countless. I was really blown away by the compassion, care and determination of the team at Downshire Road.

He continued, “The teams shared with me details of the work they do but also some of their plans for the future.

“These are ambitious plans and they need the assistance of many organisations and departments across the public sector to help make them a reality.

He added, “I have pledged to give whatever help and support I can in the months ahead in order that Women’s Aid can make those plans and ambitions a reality.”
