‘Spending power report shows union has failed’ – Murphy
Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy has said a new report showing that household spending power in the north is only half that of England ‘shows clearly that the union has failed’.
The Sinn Féin economy spokesperson said, “This study shows that households in the North have almost 50 per cent less spending power than households in England and also less than in households in Scotland and Wales.
“This highlights the extent of Tory austerity and their attack on the north’s budgets and public services.
“It also clearly shows the price of the union.

Murphy added, “We need to see full fiscal powers being transferred to the hands of locally elected and accountable politicians and to continue to develop the all-Ireland economy.”
