The Butchery Excellence scheme run a variety of competitions open to butchers across the Province and the Ulster Traditional Fine Food & Butchery Awards received over 200 entries.

Sean Owens, Managing Director of Montgomery Food Consulting & Chief Judge commented, “The momentum for the Butchery Excellence Scheme’s awards is just growing and growing. Since our first competition earlier in the year, entry numbers have increased significantly and the quality of the products is second to none.

“In fact, in some categories, it was just too close to call and we had to award a number of joint winners. Bairds Butchers should be exceptionally proud of its award winning products,” he added.

The Traditional Fine Foods & Butchery Awards is the last in a series of competitions that the Butchery Excellence Scheme has hosted this year. Towards the end of 2015, champions from each of the BES competitions will compete in the ‘Ulster Champion of Champions’ event.

The Butchery Excellence Scheme, based in Aughnacloy, was developed to help butchers across the country keep on top of changes to legislation, food safety, food labelling, new product development, personal development, training and marketing. The scheme now has 110 butchers across Ulster registered.
