Two men arrested after Newry shootings
Detectives in Newry, investigating two shootings in the city on Wednesday evening, have arrested two men.
The first incident took place at around midnight in Sandys Street, when a man called to the door of a house, and following a verbal altercation, shot a 32 year old man in the leg.
In the second incident, a 32 year old man reported that he had been taken from a house at Ardfield Avenue in Warrenpoint sometime between midnight and 1am, by four masked men, put into a dark coloured car and driven to the Armagh Road in Newry where he was then shot in the leg.
A blue Volkswagen Passat car was stopped by police in Dungannon yesterday and two men were arrested by police in connection with both shootings.
A 28 year old man and 26 year old man were arrested for kidnapping, attempted murder and possession of a firearm. The 28 year old has been released on bail and the 26 year old remains in custody.
Speaking to Newry Times, Newry, Mourne and Down District Commander, Superintendent Simon Walls said, “We believe the incidents, which occurred in Sandys Street and Armagh Road in Newry, may be linked.
“We would like to hear from anyone who has information which may assist our investigation. Detectives in Newry can be contacted on 101, quoting ref: 46 170915.”
