Art installation for Bessbrook Pond welcomed
Local Councillor Roisin Mulgrew has welcomed the proposed art installation for Bessbrook Pond.
Mulgrew, Gerard Hughes, Chair of the Residents Committee and council official Paddy Duffy were delighted to meet Alan Burke, the local artist who has designed the installation.
“This art feature and another to be erected in Camlough village are all part of the tireless work being done by the Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership,” she said. “The aim of this project is to enhance our landscape and promote our area.
“I was speaking to the artist Alan burke and he explained that inspiration came from a poem called the Ballad of Camlough River, which was written by J.N. Richardson and reflects on the shared industrial heritage of our two villages.
“The installation, which will be erected in the centre of the pond, subject to planning, is to represent the flax flower, which was a vital part of Bessbrook’s linen industry.
Mulgrew added, “Camlough and Bessbrook are two areas which are very much part of the rich cultural heritage of the Ring of Gullion and any investment to enhance these areas is to be welcomed.”
