‘Community and Voluntary Sector faces ‘wipe-out’ under Executive cuts’ – Rogers
SDLP South Down MLA Seán Rogers has said that persistent cuts to the Community and Voluntary Sector have depleted front line services and threaten to wipe out vital organisations.
Rogers said, “In constituencies across the North, community and voluntary sector organisations are being stretched to breaking point by an Executive budget that has gutted front line service delivery.
“In a myopic effort to find short term savings, the Executive is cutting budgets which will lead to long term social problems requiring further investment in the future. There is no strategy and no sense to these cuts. That’s why the SDLP has consistently voted against it.
“The Executive must urgently recognise the vital work undertaken by the community and voluntary sector. They must recognise the significant effort to fill the gap being left by wholesale cuts to front line public services.
He added, “What’s needed now is action to restore funding and end cuts, not more platitudes.”
