‘Tourism strategy could help local economy’ – Rogers
South Down MLA Seán Rogers has welcomed the newly launched Tourism NI strategy which aims to maximise the potential of Golf Tourism in Northern Ireland over the next five years.
Speaking to Newry Times, Rogers said, “I am eager to ensure South Down features highly in this effort to attract more ‘high-spending visitors’.
“The Irish Open being hosted at the Royal County Down course this year is a perfect opportunity to ensure the golfing fraternity are made aware of the many rich and challenging golfing opportunities that can be experienced when visiting our area.
“I am pleased to see Tourism NI develop such a focused strategic plan that draws on the success of our great golfers. No doubt golfing enthusiasts from across the world will be keen to know the landscapes and golf courses that played a role in successfully launching professionals like Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, and Darren Clarke.”
The SDLP representative added, “Any boost to the golfing industry will have a much needed positive impact on our local economy “It is my intention to work with Tourism NI to ensure South Down continues to feature highly in all promotional work.”
