Man (29) due in Newry Court over kidnap and false imprisonment charges
Detectives investigating an assault and abduction in Hilltown and the theft of a vehicle in Banbridge yesterday, Friday, 6th March have charged a 29 year old man with various offences including kidnapping, false imprisonment and attempted robbery.
A 35 year old woman was assaulted and forced into a car in the Hilltown area yesterday morning.
The car was then driven around 10 miles to Katesbridge where the lady managed to escape and raise the alarm.
Later, a green Mercedes jeep was taken in Banbridge and collided with other motorists at around 8am and the driver abandoned the vehicle. The 29 year old man was arrested shortly afterwards by police and remains in custody.
Speaking to Newry Times, Detective Inspector Keith Gawley, Tactical Crime Unit said, “He is due to appear at Newry Magistrates Court this morning, Saturday, 7th March. As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.”
