South Armagh road severely damaged by flooding

Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has urged drivers to avoid the Ballard Road at Lislea due to damage and debris caused by flooding.

“Following a call from a resident I attended the Ballard Road and was shocked to see the level of damage caused to the road by water flowing of the mountain.

“A recently laid drain has been washed away leaving a trench two foot wide and three foot deep in places. I immediately phoned Roads Service to advise them of the situation, explaining that the remaining width of road was being undermined by the continuing flow of water.

He added, “The stone from the drainage has been washed down the road causing another hazard. Having spoken to a number of residents at the scene I will be calling for the Roads Service to enact a permanent solution to this ongoing problem.”
