Welfare Cuts Information Meeting to be held in Newry

Newry & Armagh Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady has invited the local community to attend a ‘Welfare Cuts Information Evening’ this Thursday 9th October at 7pm in Ballybot House.

Speakers at the meeting Alex Maskey, Mickey Brady, Kelly Blair (Newry CAB) and Karl Hughes (The Mental Health Group).

The Sinn Féin representative explained to Newry Times, “There is growing concern among the community about plans to introduce Tory welfare cuts in the North as more and more people realise the devastating impact they would have.

“We in Sinn Féin want to give people the opportunity to hear informed observations of this cuts agenda being peddled by a cabinet of millionaires and being supported by their allies in unionism.

“It has been clearly demonstrated that the introduction of welfare cuts in Britain has plunged tens of thousands of people who were already struggling deeper into poverty.”

The Newry and Armagh MLA encouraged all to attend the Information Meeting. “All are welcome to attend this event and I would urge people to avail of the opportunity. Sinn Féin will not allow the same situation to unfold here.

“We are totally opposed to welfare cuts and will stand in support of the most vulnerable in our society, the poor, the unemployed, families on low incomes, those with disabilities and older members of the community,” Brady added.
