Annual ‘Shining Light’ Community Volunteering Awards 2014
The Confederation of Community Groups has announced that its Annual ‘Shining Light’ Community Volunteering Awards will take place on Thursday 5th June at Bellini’s Nightclub, Newry.
The annual volunteering awards have grown over the years and are now one of the most prestigious events in the Newry & Mourne area.
The Chief Executive of the Confederation of Community Groups Raymond Jackson said, “We are delighted to announce that our main sponsor this year is Newry Credit Union which, like CCG was established by voluntary effort and retains a strong volunteering ethos.
“The aim of the Community Volunteering Awards is to honour the life and work of Patricia Graham by recognising the significant contribution made by others to meet the needs of the local community through volunteering.
“Patricia Graham had a personal commitment and involvement with helping those in need; both in her role as a volunteer and as an employee of the Confederation of Community Groups working in support of volunteers.”
Jackson continued, “The Nomination forms will be issued on April 11th and must be completed and returned to the Adjudication panel for May 9th.
“The panel are independent from the Confederation of Community Groups and they have responsibility for selecting the award winners from each category: Seanin Graham – Irish News, Hugh Mallon – Principal St Joseph’s Boys High School Newry, Frances McCarthy – Newry Credit Union and Colette Ruddy.”
He added, “We are inviting nominations, from organisations affiliated to the Confederation of Community Groups, for seven different Shining Light Award categories: Age 16 – 24; Age 25 – 49; Age 50+; Older People’s Services; Youth Work; Charity Work and Community Work.
“This is a great way of paying tribute to volunteers or projects run by community organisations. We look forward to another successful event.”
