SDLP praise for ‘selfless and brave’ campaigner Una
“Inspirational and selfless” is how SDLP MLAs Karen McKevitt and Dolores Kelly, and Cllr Nichola Mallon described Belfast campaigner Una Crudden, who has been honoured for her tireless efforts to save lives from ovarian cancer.
The elected representatives said the Poleglass woman, who is terminally ill, is “a shining example of incredible bravery”.
In a joint statement they said, “Una is a remarkable woman who, despite her illness, has devoted her energy to help others. That is unbelievably selfless.
“Not once has Una given up on her campaign, which is helping others and raising awareness of ovarian cancer. Through her own battle she has shown extreme dignity when she has left no stone unturned in her campaign. She has touched the hearts of many and shows the massive difference one person can make.
“The ‘Woman of the Year’ honour for Una is so well deserved, and all the more timely ahead of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in March. We are appealing to every woman to make themselves aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.
The statement added, “We would also urge younger woman not to be complacent about ovarian cancer and make themselves aware of the symptoms of the disease.”
