Newry Sinn Fein MP Conor Murphy receives UVF death threats
Newry Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy has received death threats from a person claiming to represent the UVF (Ulster Volunteer Force).
Murphy told Newry Times that he received the threats over the phone to his Newry constituency office yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 29th October.
According to Murphy, the caller threatened to shoot the Member of Parliament at his Camlough home.
Murphy said he and his Sinn Fein colleagues took the threat extremely seriously and subsequently contacted the Newry PSNI. He explained, “Considering the antics of the UVF in Belfast of several months now we took the threat seriously.”
He added, “Whether it is the UVF or anyone else making such threats, they need to realise that Sinn Féin will not be intimidated from carrying on working for our constituents.”
