Special homecoming event for World Champion Shane McKeever
Newry and Mourne District Council are hosting a special homecoming family event for Shane McKeever, who won gold in line dancing at the World Dance Sport Games in China.
The dance competition, which only recently has been officially recognised as a sport, attracts competitors from all over the world for what is widely acknowledged as a competition similar in stature to the Olympics.
Speaking after his dancing exploits grabbed him the gold medal, Shane told BBC, “It was an amazing experience, I’ll definitely never forget it. Going to Taiwan was an experience in itself, dancing in an arena with 5,000 people watching you was an absolutely amazing experience too.
Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor Michael Ruane said, “I am delighted the Council are hosting a welcome home for Shane. The people of Newry and Mourne and in particular, South Armagh are very proud of Shane’s achievement.
He added, “This achievement has not only raised the profile of dance in Ireland but on the World Stage.”
Everyone is welcome to the Square, Crossmaglen, on Wednesday 2nd October 2007 at 7.00 pm, where an exciting line up of entertainment has been organised.
