Bradley meets Boxing Development Officer
SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley has met with Stephen Mills, the Development Officer of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association for a briefing on the Boxing Investment Strategy.
Commenting on what he described as a ‘useful meeting’ Bradley said they discussed the progress being made by local clubs regarding the Sport NI Boxing Investment Programme.
Bradley explained, “I am pleased that local clubs are aware of and engaging with the this programme which offers clubs a maximum resource of £200,000 out of a total pot of £3.2m for the North.
“Boxing is a sport which has been underfunded down through the years and it is good that this modest investment may give clubs the opportunity to develop their facilities and premises.
“I have visited some boxing clubs locally and I am very impressed by the great work they do with the young people from a variety of backgrounds who are involved with the sport. The dedication of the coaches and the boxers is evident from the high level of success which local boxers have achieved.
Bradley added, “I would urge any club which has not yet engaged with the Boxing Investment Programme to contact Sport NI or IABA as the window of opportunity will soon come to an end. The initial expressions of interest involve only the supply of club information, more detailed schemes can be developed later.”
