Pensioner suffers serious injury after Newry robbery

Detectives in Ardmore are hunting a man who left a pensioner with serious injuries.

The robbery of the 82 year old woman happened in the John Mitchell Place area of Newry today, Thursday, 19th September.

At approximately 2.25pm this afternoon as the elderly woman was walking along the street she was approached by an unknown man who pushed her to the ground.

The man then made off with the woman’s brown leather handbag. Police described the handbag as having two hand straps and a shoulder strap.

The man is described as wearing a grey fleece tracksuit with the hood up and a scarf covering his face.

The woman has been taken to hospital for a serious injury to her shoulder, which is not believed to be life threatening.

Detectives would ask anyone who was in the area of John Mitchell Place or who has any information to contact them at Ardmore on 0845 600 8000.
