NIIRTA comments on unemployment figures
The Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA) has welcomed the decrease in unemployment figures but expressed concern over the increase in economic inactivity.
NIIRTA Chief Executive Glyn Roberts told Newry Times, “It is good news that at long last we are seeing significant reductions in our unemployment figures and indeed falling below the UK average.
“However it is a cause for concern is that our economic inactivity figures have increased by 10,000 and are still the highest in the UK.
He added, “While many of the inactive are students and those with caring responsibilities, we still have to address this major problem if we are to move our economy forward.”
