‘Homeowners must be vigilant’, warns McDonald

Sinn Féin councillor Packie McDonald has urged home owners in Meigh and the surrounding areas to be vigilant following a spate of burglaries in the area.

Councillor McDonald told Newry Times, “There has been a number of house break ins over the past weeks with thieves stealing predominantly cash and jewellery.

“A worrying feature of these recent robberies is that they are occurring during periods where the house has only been left unoccupied for a brief period of time. This leads to the conclusion that certain homes are being monitored by opportunistic thieves.

“I would urge all property owners to ensure that their property is properly secured and that the correct alarms are fitted and regularly maintained.

McDonald added, “In addition people should remain on high alert for any suspicious vehicles or activity in the area. If people witness a suspicious incident they should contact the police immediately.”
