Clarke welcomes road drainage works
Alliance Party Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed ongoing works by DRD Roads Service to clear a blockage in the road drainage system which is causing flooding in Beechfield Park in Newcastle during heavy rain.
Speaking to Newry Times, Clarke stated, “A number of weeks ago when I was in the area I received complaints from residents in Beechfield Park about ongoing flooding in the estate which has been causing water gullies to back-fill and as a result water has been entering drive ways and flooding the roadway.
“This has been an ongoing issue for local residents living in Beechfield Park every time there is heavy or continued rainfall. I made written representations to DRD Roads Service about jetting the blocked water gullies and to investigate the ongoing flooding issue.
“In recent weeks DRD Roads Service have carried out jetting of the road drainage system in Beechfield Park, Newcastle, however a blockage has now been identified which Roads Service were unable to clear.
Clarke added, “Roads Service have advised me that they intend to carry out further investigatory work to establish the exact location of the blockage in Beechfield Park and its nature and when this has been done remedial works will be carried out. This work will be carried out within the next 4 weeks.”
