Curran expresses concern at layout of Monaghan Street footpaths

Sinn Féin Councillor Brendan Curran has expressed his concern about the layout of footpaths on Monaghan Street and the difficulty they are causing for wheelchair users.

Speaking to Newry Times, Curran explained, “I am very concerned about the amount of people who are wheelchair bound and are being forced to use the road, in between traffic on Monaghan Street and in particular Monaghan Street Bridge.

“There needs to be an urgent review on wheelchair and prams footpath accessing points. The kerbs on Monaghan Street Bridge are so high that they are causing great difficulty for people in wheelchairs and people with prams and as a result they have to dodge in between cars.

Curran added, “I fear that someone will be seriously injured if this issue is not addressed immediately.”
