Ruane welcomes vital re-surfacing work in Warrenpoint

Sinn Fein representative Mickey Ruane has welcomed the completion of essential resurfacing work on the Bridal Loanan in Warrenpoint.

Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane commended the patience of local residents who have had to negotiate potholes and a rapidly deteriorating road surface.

“I’m delighted that their patience has now been rewarded at last. We have been highlighting this issue at every opportunity for some time and I myself have met with Roads Service on a number of occasions to press for this work to be carried out on what is one of the busiest access roads in the area.

“The recent spell of icy weather caused the latest delay after works connected to the laying of gas mains saw the road surface left in an terrible state of repair. The focus must now shift to other areas of the town which are suffering a similar problem.

Ruane added, “It is not simply a case of wear and tear on vehicles, but also a road safety issue and I will be pressing for other badly needed repair works to now be carried out also.”
