Free parking at North Street Car Park

North Street Car Park in Newry has been officially opened by Newry Lord Mayor Councillor John McArdle.

The Mayor confirmed that parking will be free for all future users and congratulated the Department of Social Development for providing the necessary funding to open the car park in the Newry City Centre area.

Mr Damian Mulholland, representative of the Department of Social Development, said that he was pleased to be present at the opening of this much needed facility in the City Centre and he called on all visitors and residents of Newry and Mourne District to utilise this facility in the future.

Mr Gary Stokes, Deputy Chairman of Newry City Centre Management stated that Newry City Centre Management were very excited about the provision of the much needed car parking in the City Centre and confirmed that his Committee were very grateful to the Department of Social Development for providing the necessary funding to make this initiative happen.

He concluded by saying the car park would be open 8am to 9pm daily and asked users to note the facility will be locked promptly at 9pm each day.

Cathal Austin, President of Newry Chamber of Commerce and Trade confirmed that he was totally supportive of the provision of additional free car parking spaces in the City Centre and he hoped this major innovative project would assist in increasing footfall in the city and improve the economic future of the retailers during the current economic crisis.
