Police launch investigation into Newry armed robbery

Detectives in Ardmore are appealing for information following the report of an armed robbery at commercial premises in the Dublin Road area of Newry on Saturday, 15th December.

At approximately 9.50pm it was reported that two masked males entered a shop. One male was armed with a hatchet and the other had what is believed to be a gun.

They demanded that a member of staff hand over the two till drawers. The two males then left the shop with the till drawers which contained a sum of money and made off in a dark coloured Avensis car which was later found burnt out close to a hotel in the Ravensdale Park area, Dundalk.

The members of staff were not injured, however they were left badly shaken.

Detectives would ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who saw this vehicle to contact them at Ardmore on 0845 600 8000.

Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
