Agriculture and Rural Development Minister welcomed in Forkhill
Rural Development Minister Michelle O’Neill recently visited Forkhill to observe the beginning of the regeneration work at the former military base.
Michelle was welcomed by party colleague MP Conor Murphy and councillors Anthony Flynn and Packie McDonald.
Conor Murphy addressed the people attending the event, saying; “I congratulate the Forkhill development group for their determination in bringing the plans to this stage.
“As a party we have been working on the regeneration of this site for many years now and we pushed for the previous minister Michelle Gildernew to pursue funding for this site, which was successfully approved.
“It will greatly improve the quality of life for local residents and be an important asset to the community for years to come.”
Sinn Fein councillor Anthony Flynn added; “I am delighted to have attended this event today, where our Agriculture and Rural Development Minister has come to visit the beginning of the work carried out at the former military base in Forkhill.
“The first phase of houses is already well underway and as there has been a high demand for affordable housing in Forkhill, we would ask for the second phase to be started in 2013. I hope to see further development of the site.”
