Bradley welcomes funding for young computer programmers

SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh has welcomed the allocation of £50k to help support young people learning computer programming in Coder Dojo clubs.

Commenting on the news, Mr Bradley said, “There is a huge need for computer programmers in our economy which we must endeavour to meet, especially in relation to the creative industries.

“The Coder Dojo clubs give young people the opportunity to develop their programming skills and although this allocation of funds is relatively small it is nonetheless welcome.

Bradley added, “During the Culture Arts and Leisure Committee’s enquiry into the creative industry which will be published soon I outlined the important role that the clubs play in increasing programming skill levels.”

“I have asked the Minister for Culture Arts and Leisure to outline how the funding will be disbursed and will publicise the process when it becomes available.”
