Newry Times ‘City Day’ competition winner announced

Newry Times is delighted to announce the winner of the biggest competition ever in Newry.

Emma Taylor, Advertising and Marketing Executive for Newry Times presents the vouchers to lucky winner Ann Doran-Kennedy, her husband Patrick and their two children

Newry Times teamed up with Newry & Mourne District Council and the crème de la crème of local businesses to offer one lucky reader the prize of a lifetime.

Bessbrook lady Ann Doran-Kennedy got the phone call this afternoon from Newry Times to tell her she had won two tickets for the Jedward ‘City Day’ Concert.

She also won a £100 voucher for the Buttercrane Shopping Centre, a meal for two in the Bank Bar and Bistro, a Louis Boyd £30 voucher, a Grounded home brew coffee kit and a £10 voucher, a £50 voucher for Jack Murphy Jewelers, a £25 McParland’s Gift-ware voucher and a £20 voucher for La Dolce Vita.

The fabulous prize also included a £25 voucher for Jack Smyths, a £20 voucher for Carlin Records, a beautiful Bouquet of flowers from Central Florists, entry into Newry Fun House, One Golden Ticket for the Sticky Fingers Enchanted Ball and an afternoon tea for two at the Canal Court Hotel, Newry.

Ann has just started a new business venture on Facebook, Fairytale Frames – she makes Framed Children’s Keepsakes and Artwork and Framed Wedding Keepsakes, so the timing of her competition win was impeccable.

With nearly 500 entries for the competition, it is easy to understand why Ann was shocked to hear she had been chosen as the lucky winner. Speaking to Newry Times when she found out, Ann described her win as ‘absolutely amazing’.

“I still can’t believe it, I was hoovering the house when Newry Times rang to say I had won, and wasn’t sure if I had heard the telephone ringing, so I almost missed the call!”

It’s not the first competition Ann has ever entered, but she insists it’s the first time she has ever won anything. She continued, “I’m always entering competitions on Facebook but never win anything ever. It’s such a surprise to win such a brilliant prize!”

So has Ann any idea what she is going to spend her vouchers on? Well, her husband and young children might get something nice.

“My husband Patrick and two little girls will have to be spoiled and I will buy some Christmas presents. If there is anything left after all that, I will be treating myself too!”

With Christmas fast approaching, Ann has the perfect prize to aid in the festive preparations and she described her win as a ‘huge boost’.

“It’s absolutely fantastic. I come from a big family so after winning this I’d say they will be expecting extra good Christmas presents this year!”

With two young children – Isla (3) and Scarlet (1) – Ann said some of the prizes will be perfect to treat them. “They will be spoiled rotten! The fun house voucher will be very useful!”

Sharing Newry Times belief of buying and supporting local businesses, Ann added, “Thank you so much to Newry Times and all the local businesses involved. I’m a big believer in buying local and supporting local businesses, especially with the way the economy is at the minute.”

“Also, we love Newry Times and don’t really buy newspapers or watch the news, Peppa Pig dominates the television in our house, so its how we keep up to date with all the local news and buzz.”

Newry Times would like to say a big ‘Thank-you’ to all the local businesses who have got involved, your support has been fantastic.
