Police charge man with attempted murder after Bessbrook stabbing

Detectives in Newry have charged a 34 year old man with attempted murder and possession of an article with a blade or point in a public place.

The incident happened in the Thomas Street area of Bessbrook this morning

The news comes after Newry Times exclusively revealed this afternoon that a 24 year old man was described as being in a ‘life threatening condition’ in hospital after he was stabbed in the Thomas Street area of Bessbrook early this morning (Sunday 16th September).

At around 4.30am this morning police received a report of a man having been stabbed following an altercation in the street.

A 34 year old man was arrested a short time later and is due to appear at Newry Magistrates Court on Monday 17th September.

As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
