PIPS raise £10,766.50 after ‘The Meadow Lads’ memorial events

PIPS Newry has revealed that the suicide prevention charity has raised an impressive £10,766.50 after holding a number of events recently throughout Newry.

Friends and family members of the Meadow Lads present the cheque to Seamus McCabe of PIPS Newry & Mourne

Two of the memorial events were in honour of ‘The Meadow Lads’ – friends Bernard Larkin, Michael Sarsfield and Liam Boyle from the Meadow area of Newry – who took  their own lives in recent years.

The first event was a 5k sponsored Walk and 10k Sponsored Run along the Carnbane towpath. A lot of time and effort was put in by friends and family members of the three lads to make the event successful.

The weather was also very kind, helping to make it all the more enjoyable for everyone. A follow on evening event was then held, with over 300 people attending.

Music was provided by the fantastic Ruby, followed by great entertainment from the fabulous Burlesque Belles and then continued by the excellent DJ Aiden Griffin.

Lots of spot prizes were donated and the Compère for the evening was Councillor Pat McGinn, who done a fantastic job of facilitating the event.

PIPS Newry & Mourne would like to offer their appreciation and thanks to everyone involved and on behalf of the organisers extend grateful thanks to everyone who took part in the Walk/Run attended the evening event, donated prizes, or supported the events in any way.
