Newry music fans enjoy incredible Tennents Vital 2012
Newry music fans were treated to a two day extravaganza of music and festivities this week after Tennent’s Vital showcased some of the world’s greatest musical talent.
The Stone Roses brought Tennent’s Vital 2012 to a fantastic close with a brilliant set which delighted festival goers. Lead singer Ian Brown could hardly be heard over the crowd which included the cast of Game of Thrones and the Inbetweeners.
When the iconic front man dedicated ‘This is the One’ to George Best, his cheer of “Georgie the Belfast Boy” was echoed back to him across the Boucher Road playing fields.
The devoted fans sang along to the Manchester four set’s iconic back catalogue which included I Wanna Be Adored, Fools Gold and I Am the Resurrection. This set rounded off an amazing 2 days of music which included performances from Florence and The Machine, The Cribs and Black Keys.
One of the main highlights of the 2 day musical extravaganza was the headline performance by the Foo Fighters, who delivered a blistering set which lasted over 2 hours. Front-man Dave Grohl had the crowd eating out of his hand and seriously rocking out as he and his Californian band mates tore up the stage with more than 29 tracks.
Even the short downpours in heavy rain on Tuesday couldn’t dampen the spirits of fans who had travelled to the festival from across Ireland, the UK and even the US to attend.
The audience atmosphere was phenomenal due in no small part to the Foo’s with another highlight of the day coming from the Black Keys who blew the crowd away with their summer smash hit Lonely Boy.
As the sun pushed through on Wednesday duo Rodrigo y Gabriella played their last ever set with their Cuban band on the Tennent’s Vital stage, and they went out in true style with their own special Metallica cover which had everyone on their feet.
Florence Welch produced a dramatic show, and as the sun continued to shine over Boucher Park, she belted out hits such as Rabbit Heart and Cosmic Love before The Stone Roses took to the stage. Over 60,000 music fans came through the gates and had an unforgettable festival experience as they witnessed the very best in live music right in the centre of Belfast.
In addition to enjoying this incredible line up, which had been hailed as the most sensational bill ever seen at a festival in Northern Ireland, the fans were also able to enjoy extra festival treats courtesy of Tennent’s: Vital Acts of Kindness where ticket holders won unique prizes and fantastic experiences on site at the festival.
They were also able to enjoy for the first time, the Tennent’s Bar, where fans could have a seat and enjoy a pint in between sets from this year’s phenomenal line up which featured Tennent’s UnTapped bands Trucker Diablo and Gerardi2.
Aisling Duffy, Marketing Manager at Tennent’s NI commented:
“We are delighted with how well Tennent’s Vital 2012 has gone, it was a phenomenal line up and there were too many highlights to choose from. We had a great response to Tennent’s: Vital Act of Kindness with lots of happy customers and we are really pleased that we have been able to offer something new and unique to the festival experience.”
She added, “I’d just like to say a huge thank you to the crowd for making Tennent’s Vital 2012 a huge success and look forward to welcoming everyone next year for more of the same.”
