Flynn expresses shock after ‘terrible accident’
Local Sinn Féin councillor Anthony Flynn has commented on an accident which occurred yesterday afternoon and resulted in a 12 year old girl fighting for her life.
The collision happened on Finegan’s Road – between Jonesboro and Dromintee – at approximately 1:15pm on Sunday afternoon when the young girl was walking along the road and struck by a red van.
She was immediately rushed to Daisy Hill Hospital and then the Royal, where her condition is described as being ‘critical’.
Speaking to Newry Times, Flynn said, “When I heard of this terrible accident I went to the scene at Finnegan’s Road and spoke to a number of police officers there. It seems that this young girl of about 12 years old had been walking her dog when she was hit by a van.”
He added, “I believe that the girl was taken initially to Daisy Hill Hospital but she has since been transferred to the Royal where her condition is critical. My heart goes out to her family at this time and to everybody involved in this tragedy. Hopefully she will make a full and speedy recovery.”
