Longstone club notes – 23rd April 2012

ACL I: Downpatrick 1-7 Longstone 3-17. The senior team put in a good performance in their second game of the season on Friday night in Pairc Tomas Ruiseil, Downpatrick. At half-time the visitors were well on the way to victory and led 2-08 to 0-4, the two goals scored by Ryan Kelly and Ambrose Rogers. The second period followed the first in much the same vein with Longstone scoring points regularly, before a last minute penalty converted by Ryan Kelly ended the scoring. Longstone played well throughout the game and many players stood out but special mention should go to Ryan Kelly who scored 2-8, including three frees.

Our Minors were home to Darragh Cross last Tuesday. Two late goals from the visitors nicked the game for the east Down team by six points. Most consistent performers on the night for Longstone were Daithi Young, Gareth McDowell and Padraig Fegan.

Longstone U-16s were away to Drumclone last Thursday night and were also defeated by six points. If Longstone had taken their chances the outcome would have been different which proved to be the difference between the teams. Players to impress were Gareth McDowell, Aidan Rogers, Sean Mullan and Tyrone Poland. Next game is tomorrow(Thursday) at home to Glenn at 7.30pm-players to be at Longstone for 6.50pm.

Camogie Notes: The junior camogie team were defeated at home to Ballygalget on Monday of last week. The U-12s will take part in the All-County Blitz 3 in Ballycran this Saturday and gave a great exhibition of camogie.

Congratulations to Down minor camogs on reaching the All Ireland ‘C’ championship final due to take place on May 5 and venue to be confirmed. Niamh Rogers is on the panel and Sean, Roisin and Ann Rogers are part of the team management. It would be encouraging if some Longstone supporters could make it to the final to cheer on the team.

A final reminder to any past or present camogie players with old skorts (hybrid shorts/skirts playing gear) to please pass them on to our present players. Contact Ann Rogers (07761 879024).
