More than 35 workers in Markethill are set to lose their jobs in the next few weeks following compulsory redundancies made by Unicorn Mouldings LTD. A spokesperson for the tile manufacturing company spoke of the redundancies, “During this period Unicorn Mouldings Ltd has worked in conjunction with its staff to reduce the number of redundancies and just last week signed a new contract that has saved 8 jobs which would otherwise have been lost.” The spokesperson continued, “Unicorn Mouldings Ltd are currently developing new products and it is the company’s aim to grow the business with employment numbers rising over the next 6 – 18 months.” MLA for Newry & Armagh Danny Kennedy has spoke of his concern, saying, ” It is very worrying, particularly at a time when many families across the province are experiencing strained financial circumstances as a result of difficulties facing the economy.” The MLA has also expressed his desire to meet with Unicorn Mouldings LTD representatives in the near future to see if all attempts have been made to secure the jobs of those who are to be made redundant and has also pledged his full commitment to any efforts at bringing a successful conclusion to the situation.
