Five people in hospital after two car collision near Hilltown

Five people have been taken to hospital after two cars were involved in a crash near Hilltown. The accident happened on the Newry Road at approximately 6:30am this morning at the notorious accident black-spot known as the Seven Sisters.

The five people were rushed to Daisy Hill Hospital where three remain and are described as being in a ‘serious but stable condition’. The other two people were transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. One is described as being ‘stable’ while the other person is ‘critical but stable’.

Speaking to Newry Times a spokesman for the PSNI said, “Police in Newry are appealing for information following a two vehicle road traffic collision on the Hilltown Road this morning, 30th January. The collision, involving a white Rover 220 and silver Alfa Romeo, occurred around 6.30am, around 150m from the Leode Road junction on the Hilltown side.”

The statement continued, “A 23 year old male was taken to hospital and his condition is described as critical. Four other males, two aged 21, a 24 year old and a 34 year old, were also injured, however their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or has information in relation to this incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000.”
