Proposed closure of running track at St.Colman’s College

The Council has confirmed that the Running Track at St.Colman’s College and Community Complex will close for a period of construction for the High Jump Stand in the New Year. The funding application was successful to Department for Social Development to ensure provision of the run up area to the high jump stand provided at the St Colman’s College Sports and Community Complex. It is estimated that the closure of the track will therefore be for a period of 7 weeks depending on weather conditions.

Closure is proposed from 9th January 2012. The Council are meeting on site with representatives of the College and the contractor early in January to finalise the work programme and the Council will update users and other partners as matters progress at regular intervals. This will require closure of the running track only ,however the community changing facilities and synthetic pitches will remain open.

The estimated time-frames are as follows:

Preparation and Civil Works:

It will take approximately three to four weeks to carry out the preparation works, temporary haul road, temporary access across the track and civils for the base works.

Specialist surface:

It will take a further two weeks to complete the surface, weather permitting.

Completion:

The completion of the project will take one week, in order to remove temporary haul roads and reinstate.
