Lindsay White sentenced to 14 years in jail
Newry woman Lindsay White was today sentenced to 14 years behind bars for her role in the brutal murder of Polish national Marek Muszynski in July 2009. Newry Times reported extensively on the trial last month which found her guilty of the gruesome crime. After the guilty verdict last month, Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Talbot said, “I welcome the jury’s finding today. Lindsay White has left a family without their beloved son and prolonged their heartbreak by denying any involvement in this attack.”
He continued, “Marek was a Polish National who came to Northern Ireland to explore the opportunities this country could offer him. His life ended on a remote pathway in Newry after a brutal and sustained attack. The co-accused in this case, Adrian Cunningham, pleaded guilty and accepted his part in this horrendous crime but Lindsay White has denied her involvement from the beginning, causing more despair and sorrow for Marek’s family and friends.”
After the tariff of 14 years was set today, Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Talbot spoke to Newry Times. “Marek Muszynski was a 40 year old Polish national who came to Northern Ireland in search of a better life. Tragically, his life was taken from him in a lane-way at Upper Edward Street in Newry in July 2009 in an unprovoked, violent and sustained attack. Earlier this year 20 year old Adrian Cunningham was sentenced to a minimum of 11 years in prison for his part in the attack after previously pleading guilty.”
Talbot continued, “Today Lindsey White has been sentenced to at least 14 years in jail after being convicted of Marek’s murder. Marek was a totally innocent victim. I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the local community whose information and co-operation enabled detectives to bring this case to a successful conclusion.”
Talbot revealed that White and Cunningham were spotted on a CCTV camera after the brutal murder. “CCTV images we have released today show White and Cunningham casually walking away from the scene minutes after the attack on their way to get a takeaway meal having taken Marek’s last 70p from his pocket. Newry is undoubtedly a safer place today now these two killers are behind bars. We will do our utmost to protect members of all communities and all nationalities in Northern Ireland.”
“Our thoughts today are with Marek’s family in Poland who were unable to travel to Northern Ireland. Hopefully, today’s sentencing will provide them with a small degree of comfort after this senseless attack on their innocent loved one so many miles from home.,” he added.
