Fitzpatrick welcomes Mayobridge funding
SDLP Crotlieve Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick has welcomed news that the Edentrumley Ballydoo junction is to receive funding for improvement works for the realignment of the road.
According to the local Councillor, works are due to commence mid February.
Speaking to Newry Times, she said, “I’m delighted that we’ve secured funding for improvement works at the Edentrumley Ballydoo junction.
“This is a campaign that I’ve been pushing with DfI Roads and successive Ministers since coming into the council.
“This resource will make a huge difference to the local area and the local community. There have been countless accidents along that road section for many years.
“Since 2016 there has been remedial works carried out and now finally the road improvement scheme is commencing is fantastic news. There will be upheaval with road closures but the long term benefits must surely outweigh the inconvenience.
She added, “But this is only one part of our full vision. The campaign for the footpath continues in Mayobridge. Now that we’ve had success here, I’m determined to follow it up with more for this community.”
