‘Dreadful’ road needs to be resurfaced, says Newry Councillor
Sinn Féin Councillor Liz Kimmins has expressed her disappointment after learning that money that was to be made available for resurfacing work on the Foughill Road in Jonesborough is ‘no longer available’.
Speaking to Newry Times, Kimmins stated, “The Lower Foughill Road is in a dreadful state and is in severe need of urgent resurfacing.
“I have contacted the Dept. for Infrastructure on many occasions regarding this stretch of road and was made aware that had been made available for the road to be resurfaced and repaired in its entirety.
“I am therefore extremely disappointed to now have been told that this funding is no longer available and once again, these works have again been put on the long finger.
“Motorists are having great difficulties trying to avoid the pot holes along this route, and there will soon be very little left of the road if this issue isn’t addressed in the immediate future.
“When we are told by the Department that motorists can claim compensation for damage to their vehicles by pot holes, it beggars belief as to why funds that are being used for compensation claims cannot be used more effectively to address the problems causing the damage to vehicles,” she added.
