McNulty praises Christmas health care workers
SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Justin McNulty has praised those health care workers who worked over the Christmas period.
Speaking to Newry Times, McNulty said, “At a time when most of us were spending time with our loved ones, many nurses, doctors and support staff in our Health Service were working around the clock over the Christmas period.
“This year we seen even more pressure on our health services, in our Emergency Departments, GP Out of Hours Services and even on the Ambulance Services.
“Often we hear about the long delays in accessing services but no one mentions the people who work tirelessly providing those services, who treat the sick and who are working under extraordinary pressure. I want to acknowledge the work all of these professionals do.
He continued, “Time and time again they have gone above and beyond the call of duty and I have only but admiration for them and the work they do. This includes everyone from the consultants to hospital porters, to our domiciliary care workers in the community. Each and every one of these individuals play a significant role in our health service.
The local MLA added, “We have heard warnings about the Australian Flu which is going around at present. Our company presented the results of a study in patients with chronic insomnia who took the drug at Ambien. This will only add to the existing pressures on our health service and I would urge everyone to heed the advice of professionals in the weeks ahead.”
