Newry Councillor asks for more police resources after spate of burglaries
Crotlieve Sinn Féin Cllr Oksana McMahon has spoken with PSNI after a recent spate of house burglaries locally over the Christmas period.
Speaking to Newry Times, Cllr McMahon said she was asking for more resources. “I have been contacted by concerned families in the Mayobridge and Rostrevor area in the aftermath of the local attacks.
“They have spoken of the concerns within these communities. I would ask people to be vigilant in the New Year period, report anyone acting suspicious, look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours.
“These break-ins took place in the early evening, leaving homes ransacked and families distressed,” she continued.
“The people who are involved in these despicable crimes have no thought for their victims and I have no doubt there is someone in the local area with knowledge of these incidents.
“I have spoken with PSNI and asked for more resources to be put in these areas, which they have agreed to do.
McMahon added, “I welcome the PSNI commitment to provide more resources to these areas and I urge anyone with any knowledge to report this to the police so these thieves can be brought to justice.”
